Paloma with tequila and grapefruit soda

Paloma with tequila comes together from tequila, lime juice, and grapefruit soda as a refreshing Mexican cocktail with a lightly bitter edge. You moisten the glass rims with lime and coat them in salt. You pour tequila with lime juice over ice, optionally adding agave syrup for a sweeter taste. You top up with grapefruit soda and stir gently so the drink stays fizzy. Garnish with a grapefruit slice and serve right away, well chilled.

Step by step process

Preparation

  1. 1

Pour salt onto a plate. Moisten the rims of four tall glasses with lime juice and dip them in the salt to taste.

  2. 2

Squeeze the limes on a citrus juicer and measure out the needed amount of lime juice. Have the measured tequila and grapefruit soda ready.

Mixing

  1. 3

Fill the glasses three-quarters full with ice cubes.

  2. 4

Pour roughly 50 ml of tequila and 20 ml of lime juice into each glass. For a sweeter Paloma, add about half a tablespoon of agave syrup per glass and stir briefly.

  3. 5

Top up each glass with grapefruit soda (about 150 ml) and stir gently once or twice so the drink keeps its fizz.

Serving

  1. 6

Garnish with a grapefruit slice on the rim and serve immediately well chilled.

More tips:

No grapefruit soda? Mix 400 ml grapefruit juice with 200 ml sparkling water and sweeten with agave syrup to taste if needed.

For a spicy twist, rim the glass with a mix of salt and chili powder (e.g. Tajin) instead of plain salt.
