Aperol Spritz with prosecco and orange
Ingredients
Step by step process
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the ingredients for your Aperol Spritz: wash the orange and cut it into 4 thin slices. Set out 4 large wine glasses or balloon glasses that can comfortably hold plenty of ice.
- 2
Fill each glass roughly two-thirds full with large ice cubes. Plenty of ice is essential: it keeps the drink cold and slows down excessive dilution. Large cubes melt more slowly than crushed ice.
Mixing the cocktail
- 3
Pour 60 ml of Aperol into each glass, then add 90 ml of well-chilled prosecco. The classic ratio is 3 : 2 : 1, that is three parts prosecco, two parts Aperol and one part sparkling water. Finally, gently pour 30 ml of sparkling water down the side of the glass so the characteristic colour layering from orange to gold is preserved. Do not stir until everything is poured.
Serving
- 4
Stir the drink very gently with one slow movement of a spoon from bottom to top, no more stirring is needed, otherwise it would lose its bubbles. Garnish it with a slice of orange on the rim and serve immediately, well chilled. The cocktail is best right after preparation.
More tips:
For an authentic taste, keep the ratio of 3 parts prosecco, 2 parts Aperol, and 1 part sparkling water.
Add the sparkling water last and stir only briefly so the cocktail keeps its freshness and bubbles.
