Virgin Mojito with Mint and Lime
Ingredients
Step by step process
Preparation
- 1
Start by rinsing the mint, patting it dry, and stripping the leaves from the thicker stems. Reserve a few nice leaves for garnish.
- 2
Cut the lime into thin slices or half-moons to garnish the glasses.
- 3
Measure the lime juice and sugar syrup, then set out the sparkling water and ice.
Mixing
- 4
Divide the mint leaves among four tall glasses, then pour in the lime juice and sugar syrup.
- 5
Gently bruise the mint with a wooden muddler or the back of a spoon to release the aroma, but do not crush it to a pulp.
- 6
Fill the glasses with ice almost to the top, then top up with sparkling water to about three-quarters full.
- 7
Stir briefly and gently so all the ingredients distribute evenly.
Serving
- 8
Garnish each mocktail with a lime slice and the reserved mint leaves.
- 9
Serve immediately, well chilled. If needed, adjust the acidity or sweetness with an extra squeeze of lime or a dash of syrup.
More tips:
You can replace ice cubes with crushed ice. The drink will be crisper but will dilute faster, so reduce the sparkling water slightly.
You can make sugar syrup at home: combine equal parts sugar and water, bring to a boil, let cool, and store in the fridge. Use it chilled for your mojito.
