Espresso Martini with Vodka and Coffee Liqueur

Espresso Martini comes together as a classic cocktail of vodka, fresh espresso, and coffee liqueur shaken into a velvety foam. You chill the brewed espresso first, then measure vodka, coffee liqueur, espresso, and sugar syrup into an ice-filled shaker. You shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds until a thick foam forms. You strain it through a fine sieve into a chilled glass without ice and garnish with three coffee beans.

Step by step process

Preparation

  1. 1

Brew 120 ml of fresh espresso for this espresso martini, pour into a bowl, and quickly chill over ice. Hot espresso destroys the foam. Never skip this step.

  2. 2

Chill the cocktail glasses in the freezer for at least 5 minutes. A cold glass keeps the foam stable longer and the drink stays chilled throughout serving. If you do not have a freezer handy, fill the glasses with ice water for two minutes, then discard it before pouring.

Mixing

  1. 3

Fill the shaker to the top with ice so the ingredients are thoroughly chilled and aerated. More ice means better aeration and a thicker, longer-lasting foam on top of the finished drink.

  2. 4

Measure the vodka, coffee liqueur, chilled espresso, and sugar syrup, then pour everything into the shaker. Use a jigger for precise proportions every time.

  3. 5

Shake vigorously for 15 to 20 seconds. Condensation on the outside of the shaker tells you the contents are cold enough and the foam is ready.

Serving

  1. 6

Strain the cocktail through a fine sieve into 4 chilled glasses without ice. Take care to distribute the foam evenly between all glasses so every serving looks equally impressive and inviting.

    TIP:

When pouring from a shaker, use a double strainer: first a fine strainer, then a filter with an even finer mesh. The result is a cleaner drink and smoother foam.

  2. 7

Garnish each cocktail with three coffee beans arranged in a triangle on the foam. Serve immediately.

More tips:

For a more pronounced foam, use freshly brewed espresso with good crema and shake with more ice.

No sugar syrup? Dissolve a teaspoon of sugar in hot espresso and let it cool completely.
