Banana protein smoothie
Ingredients
Step by step process
Preparation
- 1
Peel the bananas, chop them into smaller pieces, and place them into the blender. For a creamy protein smoothie, use ripe bananas - they are naturally sweeter and give the drink the right texture.
- 2
Add the protein powder, almond milk, and optionally oats to make the drink thicker. Oats will extend the feeling of fullness and provide complex carbohydrates.
TIP:A small amount of rolled oats is enough to thicken a smoothie. You’ll achieve a better texture without changing the ratios of the other ingredients or needing any additional adjustments.
- 3
Drizzle with honey and sprinkle a little cinnamon to taste. Honey can be replaced with maple syrup or left out entirely if the natural sweetness of the banana is enough. Cinnamon also supports metabolism and gives the drink a pleasant aroma.
TIP:Use honey in moderation and add cinnamon for a subtly sweet and spicy flavor. As an alternative, consider dates or vanilla for an additional subtle dimension.
Blending
- 4
Blend everything on high for about 1-2 minutes, until completely smooth with no lumps. If the drink is too thick, add a little more almond milk. For more protein, add a second scoop of powder. Alternatively, use Greek yogurt instead of some of the almond milk.
TIP:Use short pulses, followed by a smooth, long blend to minimize lumps and prevent the mixture from overheating. By alternating speeds, you will achieve a fine texture.
Serving
- 5
Divide the drink into 4 glasses and serve immediately, ideally well chilled. The drink tastes best fresh, but can be stored in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Give it a quick stir before serving if it has been sitting. Garnish with a sprig of mint or a cinnamon stick.
More tips:
If you prefer a chilled protein smoothie, use frozen bananas - the drink will be thicker and more refreshing.
