Chili flakes
Chili flakes (also crushed red pepper) are coarsely crushed dried Capsicum chili fruits, usually including the seeds. They are deep red in colour, with a smoky-fruity aroma and a pronounced heat (typically 15,000 to 50,000 SHU, depending on the variety). A universal spice for pasta, pizza (the Italian peperoncino), arrabbiata, Asian stir-fries, marinades, dips, chili oil, and savoury bakes. Add toward the end of cooking or sprinkle directly on the finished dish. Not to be confused with paprika or Turkish Pul Biber flakes (milder, less hot).
