Tavuk sis, chicken skewers with yogurt marinade
Ingredients
Step by step process
Prepare the marinade
- 1
Tavuk sis starts with the marinade. In a bowl mix the plain yogurt, olive oil, pressed garlic, sweet and hot ground paprika, ground cumin, lemon juice, salt and freshly ground pepper. Stir well into a smooth marinade.
Marinate the chicken
- 2
Cut the chicken breasts into cubes of approximately 3 × 3 cm. Add them to the marinade and mix thoroughly so all pieces are evenly coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, ideally overnight.
Prepare the skewers
- 3
Soak wooden skewers in cold water for at least 30 minutes to prevent them from burning on the grill. Thread the marinated chicken pieces onto the skewers alternately, without crowding them too tightly so the meat cooks evenly on all sides.
Grilling
- 4
Heat a grill or grill pan to high heat and lightly brush with oil. Grill the skewers for approximately 3 to 4 minutes per side, 12 to 15 minutes total, until the chicken is golden brown and fully cooked through.
Serving
- 5
Serve them hot immediately with pita bread, fresh vegetables and a yogurt dip. Add lemon wedges and garnish with fresh parsley or coriander.
More tips:
Marinate the chicken for at least two hours, the yogurt tenderizes it and keeps it juicy.
Soak the wooden skewers, or they burn before the meat over high heat.
