Cold brew tonic with orange
Ingredients
Step by step process
Preparation
- 1
Wash the oranges well. Cut one in half and squeeze it into a measuring jug. strain the juice through a fine sieve if needed. From the second orange, cut 4 thin slices for garnish.
TIP:After juicing the oranges, strain the juice through a fine sieve to remove the pulp and fibrous bits. You’ll obtain a clear, smooth juice that blends better with cold brew and tonic.
- 2
In a bowl or jug, mix the cold brew coffee with 80-100 ml of orange juice. If you prefer a sweeter drink, add simple syrup and stir briefly.
Assembly
- 3
Prepare 4 tall glasses and fill them evenly with ice.
- 4
Pour about 150 ml of tonic into each glass. Then slowly pour the coffee-orange mixture down the side of the glass or over a spoon to create gentle layering and keep the drink fizzy.
Serving
- 5
Garnish each glass with an orange slice, stir gently with 1-2 movements, and serve immediately chilled.
More tips:
No cold brew? Substitute it with strong chilled filtered coffee. Avoid hot espresso, which would quickly make the tonic lose its fizz.
For more pronounced layering, pour the coffee very slowly over a spoon and use larger clear ice cubes, which will melt more slowly.
