Step by step process

Preparation

  1. 1

Peel the apples, remove the cores, and cut into smaller pieces.

  2. 2

Peel the banana and slice it.

Cooking

  1. 3

Place the apples in a small saucepan, add water, and simmer over low heat for about 8-10 minutes until the apples are soft.

    TIP:

When warming baby fruit puree, use a bain-marie (water bath): place the container with the puree into a pot of gently simmering water. The temperature will be gentle and even, which helps preserve flavor, aroma, and vitamins.

  2. 4

Remove the pan from the heat, add the sliced banana, and let cool briefly.

Blending

  1. 5

Blend the apples and banana until smooth using a blender or hand blender.

    TIP:

When blending, gradually add the liquid (boiled water or infant formula) in small amounts and occasionally stop to scrape down the sides of the blender to achieve a smooth puree with no lumps.

  2. 6

If the puree is too thick, add a little boiled water to thin it.

Serving

  1. 7

Spoon the puree into clean bowls and serve warm or at room temperature.

  2. 8

Store any leftovers in the refrigerator and use within 24 hours.

    TIP:

Divide the puree into small portions in ice cube trays and freeze. When reheating, thaw slowly in a water bath or in the microwave, and stir before serving.

More tips:

Pass the puree through a fine sieve to make it completely smooth.

The puree can be frozen in small portions and reheated as needed.
