Thai basil
Thai basil (Ocimum basilicum var. thyrsiflora, Thai: horapha) is a variety of basil with narrow leaves, purple stems, and a distinctive anise-licorice flavor. Unlike sweet basil, it holds up very well to heat, making it ideal for hot Asian dishes. It is indispensable in Thai curries (green, red), pad kra pao (beef with basil), Vietnamese pho soups, and salad rolls. It differs from holy basil (kraphao) with a milder flavor and smoother leaves.
