Mini hot dogs for kids
Ingredients
Step by step process
Preparation
- 1
Slice the buns lengthwise, keeping them attached so they form a pocket, and prepare slices of cheese and pickled cucumber.
- 2
Fill a pot with water and bring it to a boil. Meanwhile, prepare a pan for toasting the buns.
Cooking
- 3
Place the sausages into the boiling water, reduce the heat to a gentle simmer, and heat for 4 to 5 minutes so they are hot but don’t burst.
- 4
Melt a small amount of butter in the pan and briefly toast the cut sides of the buns until golden and crisp.
TIP:Tip: Melt a small amount of butter in a pan over medium heat and place the cut sides of the buns down. Toast for 1-2 minutes until golden brown and a crispy crust forms. Be careful not to burn the butter.
- 5
Place the hot sausages into the buns, optionally add a slice of Edam cheese, and cover with a lid for half a minute to let the cheese gently melt.
TIP:Tip: When melting cheese, choose a low temperature and briefly cover with a lid so the cheese melts evenly and doesn't burn. If it thickens, add a splash of milk.
- 6
Add slices of pickled cucumber and set out ketchup and mustard for seasoning.
Serving
- 7
Serve the mini hot dogs warm and offer children ketchup and mustard to season to taste.
More tips:
For small children, you can cut the sausage lengthwise or halve it to make it easier to eat and reduce the risk of choking.
If needed, use gluten-free buns and check the ingredients of the sausages and ketchup.
