Jakub SýkoraFast FoodAmerican Cuisine x se líbilo
A classic hot dog is the ultimate quick bite: a soft bun, a juicy sausage, and simple toppings like mustard, ketchup, onion, and pickles make an irresistible favourite. Heat the sausages in water, toast the buns briefly, and serve immediately after assembling.

Step by step process

Preparation

  1. 1

Get the classic hot dog ready: peel and finely chop the onion, slice the pickles into thin rounds, and have the buns within reach.

  2. 2

Slit the buns lengthwise, but not all the way through, so they hold their shape when filled.

  3. 3

Pour water into a pot and bring to a boil.

Cooking

  1. 4

Bring the water to a boil. Reduce to a gentle simmer, add the sausages, and heat for 4 to 5 minutes. Do not boil vigorously to prevent splitting.

  2. 5

Meanwhile, heat a dry pan and briefly toast the cut sides of the buns for 30 to 60 seconds until lightly browned.

Assembly

  1. 6

Place the hot sausage into the warm bun, add the chopped onion and pickle slices.

  2. 7

Season with ketchup and mustard to taste and serve immediately.

More tips:

Do not boil the sausages in rapidly boiling water. A gentle simmer is enough to keep them juicy and prevent splitting.

Toast the bun dry, without butter. The golden crust holds up beautifully against the moisture from the sausage and condiments.
