Grilled Marinated Tofu
Ingredients
Step by step process
Prep and marinating
- 1
Pat the tofu dry with a paper towel and weigh it down for 15 minutes so it releases excess water and the marinade soaks in better. Then cut it into slices about 1.5 centimeters thick.
- 2
In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, sesame oil, pressed garlic, grated ginger, maple syrup, and squeezed lime juice. You will get a dark, fragrant marinade.
- 3
Place the tofu slices in the marinade so they are submerged on all sides, and let them sit in the fridge for at least 2 hours, ideally overnight. Turn them occasionally so the flavor distributes evenly.
Grilling
- 4
Heat the grill or grill pan to high and lightly brush the grate with oil so the tofu doesn't stick. Take the slices out of the marinade and let the excess liquid drip off, keeping the marinade.
- 5
Grill the tofu for 3 to 4 minutes per side, until it gets golden grill marks and the edges start to crisp. While grilling, brush it with the leftover marinade to build a glossy glaze.
- 6
Transfer the finished slices to a plate, sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds, and serve hot as a main course or part of a summer barbecue.
More tips:
Firm tofu works best on the grill, while silken tofu would fall apart on the grate. If you don't have a grill, you can sear the slices just as well in a hot grill pan.
