Plums

Švestky

Plums are blue-purple stone fruits and one of the most popular fruits in Central Europe. They have a sweet, mildly tart flavour and aromatic flesh. They are enjoyed fresh, dried into prunes, preserved as compotes or slow-cooked into plum butter. In the kitchen, they form the basis of dumplings, cakes, pastries and sauces. Plums can also be fermented to produce slivovitz, a traditional Central European plum brandy. They are a rich source of vitamin C, potassium and dietary fibre. The fresh season runs from late summer to autumn, though processed forms are available and used year-round.
