Lychee

Liči

Lychee is a tropical fruit originating from southern China, now cultivated in many subtropical regions around the world. The fruit has a rough, pink-red skin beneath which lies translucent, juicy white flesh with a refreshingly sweet flavor and a subtle floral or nutmeg-like note. Inside is a large dark seed. Fresh lychees are enjoyed as a dessert or snack, and are added to fruit salads, cocktails, sorbets, and Asian dishes. Canned lychees are available year-round. They are rich in vitamin C, potassium, and antioxidants. In Asian cuisine, lychee is a popular ingredient in sweet-and-sour sauces and beverages.
