Jostaberry

Josta

The jostaberry is a fruit hybrid created by crossing blackcurrant and gooseberry. The berries are dark purple to black, roughly the size of a large gooseberry, but with a flavor closer to blackcurrant, sweet-tart with a strong aroma. Jostaberry bushes are more disease-resistant than pure blackcurrant plants, making them popular among gardeners. The fruit is harvested in summer and is primarily used for jams, compotes, juices, and baking. It is rich in vitamin C and antioxidants. Fresh jostaberries also make a great healthy snack eaten straight off the bush.
