Bilberry - forest fruit full of antioxidants

Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) is a small dark blue fruit growing on low shrubs in European forests. It has a characteristic sweet-tart flavor and intensely staining juice. Bilberries are one of the richest natural sources of antioxidants, particularly anthocyanins with anti-inflammatory properties. They are harvested from July to August and used in baking, jams, compotes, ice cream, and smoothies. European wild bilberries are distinguished by their smaller size but significantly more intense flavor compared to cultivated varieties.
