Eduard LáskaPreservesCzech Cuisine x se líbilo
Blueberry cinnamon jam is one of the most fragrant treasures of a home pantry and tastes like summer sealed in a jar. Dark blueberries give it a deep fruity flavor, while a pinch of cinnamon rounds it out and scents the whole kitchen. From fresh fruit, jelling sugar and a drop of lemon you cook a thick spread in under half an hour. It is wonderful on fresh bread, in pancakes or as a filling for desserts, and sealed well it keeps until winter.

Blueberry Cinnamon Jam

Step by step process

Preparation and cooking

  1. 1

Start your blueberry jam by preparing the fruit. Pick over the blueberries, rinse them and tip them into a wide pot. Add the lemon juice, then simmer briefly until the berries release their juice, and blend part of them if you prefer a smoother texture.

  2. 2

Stir in the jelling sugar and ground cinnamon. Bring everything to a rolling boil over constant stirring. Boil hard for about 5 minutes until it thickens. To test, drop a little onto a cold plate, where it should not run.

Canning and storage

  1. 3

Ladle the hot preserve into clean sterilized jars right up to the rim and seal tightly. Turn them upside down and let them cool so the lids draw in.

  2. 4

Store the cooled jars in a dark, cool place. Sealed this way, it keeps for several months. Once opened, keep it in the fridge.

More tips:

Add the cinnamon slowly and by the pinch, it easily overpowers the delicate blueberries.

No jelling sugar? Reach for regular sugar with pectin, or add a grated apple.
