Lightly salt and pepper the ground beef and divide it into 4 equal portions. Form patties slightly larger than the buns.
TIP:Shape the meat mixture into patties and make a small indent in the center of each. This prevents the patty from puffing up in the middle while cooking and helps it cook evenly.

Wash the tomatoes and slice them into rounds. Separate the iceberg lettuce into leaves, slice the cucumber into thin rounds, and peel and thinly slice the red onion.

In a small bowl, mix the mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard until smooth.
Cooking

Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat.

Place the patties on the hot pan and cook 3-4 minutes on each side, until cooked to your desired doneness.

Meanwhile, split the hamburger buns and, if desired, lightly toast the cut sides in a dry pan.
Serving

Spread some sauce on the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf, the patty, a tomato slice, cucumber, and onion.

Add a little more sauce to the top bun and close the burger. Add extra vegetables or cheese to taste.

Serve immediately, ideally with fresh vegetables.
More tips:
For an extra juicy burger, use meat with a higher fat content (ideally around 20%).
Do not mix other ingredients into the meat. just lightly salt and pepper - this preserves the full beef flavor.
