French Toast with Strawberries
Ingredients
Step by step process
Preparation
- 1
Wash and dry the strawberries, then slice or halve them. Set aside.
- 2
Crack the eggs into a bowl, add the milk, then stir in the sugar, cinnamon, salt, and, if using, vanilla sugar.
- 3
Whisk the mixture until smooth so the sugar dissolves and the spices are evenly distributed.
TIP:Before whisking, sift sugar, cinnamon, and salt through a sieve to prevent lumps and ensure the spices are evenly distributed. After whisking, let it rest briefly (5-10 minutes) and whisk again for a smoother texture.
- 4
Dip each slice of sandwich bread, one at a time, on both sides for about 20-30 seconds to soak.
TIP:Use day-old, sturdy bread and dip the slices for only 20-30 seconds on each side. The interior will stay moist and the crust will be crispy, without over-soaking.
Frying
- 5
Melt the butter in a pan over medium heat so the surface is evenly coated.
- 6
Place the soaked slices in the pan and fry them 2-3 minutes on each side until golden and crisp.
- 7
Transfer the cooked toasts to a plate and keep them warm while you finish the rest.
Serving
- 8
Top each toast with a portion of the sliced strawberries. you can gently press them to release some juice.
- 9
If desired, dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with maple syrup.
- 10
Serve immediately while the toasts are warm and crispy.
More tips:
Use day-old sandwich bread - it soaks up the egg mixture better and holds its shape when frying.
