Polenta

Polenta

Polenta is a traditional Italian dish and ingredient made from coarsely ground cornmeal. It originates from northern Italy, particularly the Veneto and Piedmont regions, but has spread worldwide. It is made by slowly cooking cornmeal in water or broth while stirring continuously until a thick, creamy porridge forms. It is served warm as a side dish in place of pasta or potatoes, or left to cool, then sliced and fried, baked, or grilled. It has a mildly sweet, buttery flavor. Due to its gluten-free nature, it is a popular alternative for people with gluten intolerance.
