Mandarin Zest
Mandarin zest is an aromatic ingredient obtained from the peel of mandarins, widely used in cooking and baking. It can be used fresh, dried, or candied, offering an intense citrus aroma with a gently sweet and slightly bitter flavour. Grated zest brings life to cookie doughs, muffins, cakes, and festive pastries. It also works well in marinades, sauces, herbal tea blends, and homemade liqueurs. When using mandarin zest, it is important to choose unwaxed, unsprayed fruit, as conventionally grown mandarins are often treated with pesticides and waxes. Dried zest can easily be prepared at home by cutting the peel into strips and leaving it to dry at room temperature.
