Souvlaki - Greek meat skewers

Souvlaki (from the word souvla, skewer) are small meat skewers made from marinated chunks of meat grilled over charcoal.

The meat is marinated in olive oil, lemon, oregano and garlic. It is served on the skewer or wrapped in pita bread with tzatziki and chips. It is the most popular fast food in Greece and the rivalry between Athens and Thessaloniki over the right way to serve it is legendary.
