Horiatiki - Greek village salad
Horiatiki (village salad) is the most iconic Greek salad. It features tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, red onion, Kalamata olives and a large block of feta on top.
It is dressed with olive oil and seasoned with oregano. An important rule: it is never mixed with lettuce. In Greece it is served as a side dish or a light lunch with bread.
- Authentic horiatiki never contains lettuce or any other leafy greens.
- A large block of feta cheese sprinkled with oregano is placed on top.
- The base consists of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, red onion and Kalamata olives.
- High-quality olive oil is the key ingredient that ties all the flavours together.
