Waffles - a crispy treat from the waffle iron
Waffles are sweet pastries with a characteristic grid pattern baked in a waffle iron. The batter is made from flour, eggs, milk, butter, and sugar. The most famous are Belgian waffles, which come in two varieties: Brussels (light and crispy) and Liège (denser and sweeter with pearl sugar). American waffles are softer and served with whipped cream, fruit, maple syrup, or fried bacon. Waffles are popular as breakfast, dessert, and street food.
