Vada Pav, Mumbai street sandwich

Vada pav is the most popular street food in Mumbai and is often called the Indian burger. It consists of a fried potato ball (vada) in a chickpea flour batter, served in a soft bun with garlic chutney.

The dish was created in the 1960s at stalls near Dadar station as a quick meal for commuters. Today it is a symbol of Mumbai street food culture. The potato filling is seasoned with turmeric, mustard seeds and chilli.
