Tteokbokki - spicy rice cakes

Tteokbokki is the iconic street food of South Korea. Cylindrical rice cakes called tteok are simmered in a sauce of gochujang, gochugaru and soy sauce. Fish cakes eomuk and boiled eggs are added.

Originally a royal court dish without chilli - the spicy version only emerged in the 1950s. Modern rabokki combines tteokbokki with ramen noodles.
