Pizza, Italian icon

Pizza is arguably the most famous Italian dish and one of the most popular foods in the world. Its base is yeasted dough made from flour, water, yeast, and salt, spread with tomato sauce and topped with mozzarella.

Modern pizza originates from Naples, where in 1889 the margherita was created in honour of Queen Margherita. Neapolitan pizza is baked in a wood-fired oven at around 485 °C for just 60 to 90 seconds.
