Picarones - Peruvian pumpkin doughnut dessert
Picarones are a Peruvian street dessert. The dough is made from cooked pumpkin and sweet potato with flour, yeast and anise. It is shaped into rings and deep-fried until golden.
They are served drizzled with chancaca syrup made from unrefined cane sugar with cinnamon and orange peel. They are sold at street stalls especially in the evening hours.
