Garlic Soup - hearty Slovak garlic broth

Garlic soup, known as cesnačka in Slovakia, is a rich garlic soup with a bold flavour and aroma. The base is a broth seasoned with a generous amount of garlic, to which potatoes, eggs and grated cheese are added.

The soup is famous as a traditional hangover cure and is commonly served after New Year celebrations. It comes with toasted croutons or bread. The Slovak version tends to be thicker and more robust, often enriched with smoked meat or sausage.
