Empanadas - Spanish filled pastry turnovers

Empanadas are filled pastry turnovers with roots in Galicia in north-west Spain. The Galician empanada is a large flat pie made from flaky pastry filled with tuna or meat.

In Peru, empanadas have been adapted into smaller individual turnovers with local fillings such as ají de gallina or beef. Both Spanish and Peruvian traditions celebrate empanadas as a versatile and beloved everyday food.
