Chana Masala, spicy chickpea curry

Chana masala is one of the most popular vegetarian dishes in Indian cuisine. Chickpeas are simmered in a thick tomato sauce with onion, garlic, ginger and a blend of spices including turmeric, coriander, cumin and chilli.

The dish originates from northern India, particularly Punjab. A key ingredient is amchur, dried mango powder that adds tartness. It is served with rice, naan bread or bhature (deep-fried puffed bread).
