Beleše - Slovak fried pastries

Beleše are traditional Slovak fried pastries made from yeast dough. They are filled with cottage cheese, plum jam, or walnuts and deep-fried in hot oil until golden. Unlike doughnuts, they have a flat shape and the filling is added before frying. They are traditionally prepared during carnival season in Slovakia.
